The Philippines is set to finalise an agreement with Japan that would permit the deployment of military soldiers in each other’s country, in the first quarter of 2024. The announcement was made by the Philippines' Secretary of National Defence Gilberto Teodoro on January 16. The move by the Philippines is seen as a concerted effort to fortify its ties with regional partners and allies like the US and Canada, to counter Beijing’s expanding aggression.
